Discover La Seu: Palma de Mallorca Cathedral

palma de mallorca cathedral

Southern Europe is packed with destinations that promise gorgeous stretches of sand and sparkling turquoise waters, but few can match the laid-back, Bohemian charms of Mallorca, known as the Jewel of the Balearic Islands. On this beautiful island is the Palma de Mallorca Cathedral, built between the 14th and 16th centuries, and the jewel in the crown of Mallorca Gothic architecture. La Seu, also known as the Cathedral of Light, houses important works of art from different eras (Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and modern).

From Posada Terra Santa, your boutique hotel in Mallorca, we want to offer you the maximum information so that you can fully enjoy your visit to one of Palma’s main attractions, where you can discover some of its most curious and unknown corners, such as the bell tower, the passageway between the two towers of the main façade and the spectacular panoramic terrace from where you will be able to contemplate the rose window of the apse, one of the largest in the Gothic world, which measures about 13 cm in diameter, occupies almost 100m² of surface, and It is made up of more than 1200 crystals.

Palma Cathedral is a symbol of Mallorca, it has a rectangular shape and is divided into three naves with eight aisles each. The presbytery is formed by the Royal Chapel and the elevated chapel of the Trinity. The side naves between the buttresses are occupied by chapels. The ceiling is configured with ribbed vaults supported by fourteen tall, slender octagonal pillars.
