MUSIC IN MALLORCA

If you are a born music lover, you might like to know that the island of Mallorca attracts the finest musicians from the national and international music scene.

Every Wednesday at 9pm, you can see the best Andalusian Flamenco shows at the Teatre Sans. Enjoy the authentic rhythm and spirit of ‘cante jondo’ as you sample some of Mallorca’s finest products.

From 10 May until 28 September, the Fundación Bartolomé March hosts a series of summer concerts at the Palau March. In the finishing straight of this festival, you can enjoy live performances of Frédéric Chopin’s 24 Etudes by the acclaimed pianist from Barcelona Josep Maria Colom (14 September at 9pm). The closing night will feature a performance by the Dutch Utrecht String Quartet  at 9pm on 28 September, with music by the likes of Turina, Granados and Shostakovich. These concerts are free but seating capacity is limited.

On 8 September, the Palau de Congressos in Palma will be welcoming the singer-songwriter, composer, writer, musician and poet Joan Manuel Serrat. During his performance, the multi-faceted Catalan musician will captivate the audience with the most acclaimed hits from his vast back catalogue.

With a view to highlighting the heritage of this Parish, every Thursday at 12pm, the church of Santa María la Major in Inca offers a half-hour organ concert. Musicians such as Tiana SiquierBartomeu VenyRafael Riera and Antonio Mulet provide the melodic accompaniment to your day on the island.

FILM IN MALLORCA

This summer, you can enjoy the 32nd edition of the open-air film festival Cinema a la fresca, an initiative of the Ajuntament de PalmaIn the Parc de la Mar, right by Palma Cathedral, you can watch a selection of the best films of all time and all genres in Catalan, Spanish and English.  Click here to see which films are showing in the evenings throughout July, August and September. Entry is free.

If you love short films, you should know that the best way to start the weekend has a name: Mecal Air Mallorca 2018. On Fridays 17, 24 and 31 August , you can enjoy a selection of the best shorts from the Barcelona International Festival in the central courtyard of Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma.

EXHIBITIONS IN MALLORCA

Mallorca has a vast array of exhibitions featuring the work of artists from classical times to the modern age.

Until 28 October, the Museu Fundación Juan March offers members of the public the chance to see “Picasso’s Engravings” a selection of more then 2000 engravings by Picasso from the start of his artistic career.

With the collaboration of the Fondazione Giorgio e Isa de Chirico (Rome), Caixa Forum Palma presents The World of Giorgio de Chirico, dream or realityIn this exhibition, open to members of the public until November, you can see the evolution of one of the most influential Italian artists of the last century: from his early metaphysical works at the start of the century to his neo-metaphysical cycle, the style that best describes the final years of his professional career. All with the aura of suspense and mysticism that emanate from Chirico’s work.

Miró, esperit salvatge” is essential viewing for fans of this multi-faceted artist from Barcelona. Having travelled to countries all around the world, this work is coming to the Fundació Miró and will be available until 2019. In “Miró, esperit salvatge”, the artist bares his soul through a wide variety of technique and materials, always with a clear reference to his provenance.
